Just returned from a week in Kyrenia at the Ship Inn. As a first timer I was a little apprehensive about holidaying alone but after making contact with others travellers on the forum I felt much better.
The hotel was clean and comfortable and all the staff were very polite and helpful. I enjoyed the opportunity to take part in some of the optional excursions. We had a fantastic day travelling around the Karpaz peninsula despite the heat. Our guide Lina was very knowledgeable and managed to keep most of us entertained on the long drive (some slept!! - yes you know who you are!)
The Cypriot Night was also very enjoyable - well worth it.
All in all...I met some very lovely people, made new friends and had a super holiday. I thoroughly recommend it!

This was my first singles holiday and I had the best holiday ever. I was really really nervous about booking this holiday and even though I pretty much get on with anyone I was a bit worried about who would be on the holiday and whether we would get on. There were seven of us ranging from 32 years old (I am 35) to 60 years old and we had the best time ever. I have never laughed so much in my life and have made some new amazing friends. I would recommend this type of holiday to anyone.
The Hotel itself is really nice. The staff are fantastic - nothing is too much trouble and the rooms are nice and clean. It is a taxi ride to Kyrenia harbour but its also easy to get a bus. There are some lovely beaches accessible by bus or taxi and staff at hotel / reps / taxi drivers will be able to recommend where is best to go.
An amazing holiday with amazing people. Can't wait to go again next year !!

Just back from Ischia, fabulous holiday. Stayed in Forio at Lord Byron Hotel which was really good. Small and friendly, very clean, wonderful spa and exceptionaly helpful staff. Maitre de very good and always willing to help with food if menu not what was wanted. Ischia is beautiful with great things to see, but must visit Negombo a truly fab spa set in the most beautiful location. Annapaolo, solitaire rep in Ischia extremely helpful and always available. Altogether a great holiday

Well Magsie, NOBODY replied to my message !
Felt slightly embarrassed thinking that I'd made a spectacle of myself so I actually deleted it !
Consoled myself with the prospect of spotting some Solitair labels at Gatwick. Wrong - wandered aimlessly around there feeling thoroughly dejected.& spent the whole journey on my own wondering what on earth I'd let myself on for. By the time I got to Turkey I was almost suicidal.
Eventually hooked up with some others on arrival. Think there were about 8 / all different shapes and sizes / all different age groups / all trying to make polite small-talk / all standing round twiddling our thumbs waiting for what seemed like eternity for the last remaining person to turn up. It was probably about 6pm Turkey time and I'd been on the road since 6am / was really tired, irritable, starving hungry and getting totally pee'd off - especially when I found out that half of them were actually on the gulet. Thought I was going to spend a week in a strange hotel, in a strange country, virtually on my own with the company of what I thought could only be described as a really dour, motley crew ! Really not my cup of tea / anxiety was about to go off the richter scale and I just wanted to go HOME !
Well mysteryman never turned up - and if you're looking in pal “thanks for nearly giving me heart failure, but you missed out on an absolutely brilliant holiday”
The hotel was actually full (except for mysteryman's room) and all those people of different shapes and sizes turned out to be a fantastic crowd / the differing age groups all mixed in, and we all got along famously / and the motley crew turned out to be some of the nicest people I've ever met.
So why didn't you all come on the forum beforehand ? … You were busy packing – yeh right !
Enjoyed myself so much I'm going back again this year, and if mysteryman wants to come along he's most welcome !

This was a thoroughly enjoyable week for me (Kyrenia 10-17 March 2010) and I have not been on a Solitair holiday before. I had been very worried before going because, when I posted on the message board for the first time, very few people responded. The Editor and one or two experienced Solitair travellers posted to reassure me but I was still not 100% convinced until I arrived. I would say to anyone who feels the same as I did not to worry because most people are in the same boat and the more experienced members of your group will always be happy to help and advise you. Also, the amount of replies to your posts will not reflect on the cameraderie that you will feel when you actually meet people. A lot of my group didn't look at the website at all so the number of replies has no direct bearing on how things will be on the trip. It will be TONS better!
The Ship Inn Hotel was very clean and the staff were really helpful and charming. Meals were not overly imaginative but the quality was good, the food was fresh and there was plenty of everything. Ahmet the Solitair Rep was helpful and the excursions were excellent.
